Frequently Asked Questions for Families

How much do assessments cost?

My current cost of a full assessment and a comprehensive written report that lasts a lifetime is £395 plus travel.

A £50 deposit is required to secure the date. The final amount is to be paid on the day of the assessment.  The report is sent within 4 weeks of cleared payment.

Why would my child benefit from a dyslexia assessment?

A dyslexia assessment will give you a clear and detailed understanding of your child’s learning strengths and weaknesses. Whether or not dyslexia is diagnosed, it will help you and their school give them effective, tailored support.

What age do you assess?

The assessment materials I use are designed for children over 8 years old.

What happens during an assessment?

Before the assessment takes place, I will collect background information on your child from their parents and school.

The assessment process lasts between 2-3 hours, and this usually takes place in your home or your child's school. We just need quiet table space.

Children tend to enjoy their assessment. Most of the activities feel like games, and although we have a lot to cover, each test is relatively quick. Children are welcome to take breaks whenever they need to.

The assessment looks specifically at underlying ability, working memory, phonological awareness, processing speed, reading, spelling and writing.

What happens after an assessment?

You will receive a full report usually within four weeks of completing the assessment.  The assessment process will reveal a detailed learning profile of strengths and weaknesses that will be clearly explained, and it will also include individualised recommendations for support at home and in school. I am also able to talk through the results with you or your child's school, by telephone or Zoom.
