About me

I am an experienced, caring dyslexia assessor, passionate about enabling children and young people to reach their potential. I conduct dyslexia diagnostic assessments for schools and private bookings for families. I have an assessment practising certificate, meaning your dyslexia diagnostic report lasts a lifetime. You can look me up at https://sasc.org.uk/find-an-assessor/

I renew my qualifications every three years and attend regular training courses to update and expand my knowledge about diagnosing dyslexia and how best to support individuals with dyslexia to reach their potential. Most recently, I was privileged to be invited to be a member of the Delphi panel, which helped develop the new definition of dyslexia shared in May 2024. I regularly carry out training for teachers, parents and SENCOs to help them support students with dyslexia. In my role as a school governor, I undertake safeguarding training and keep up-to-date with developments in education.

Before qualifying as a dyslexia assessor, I spent over 20 years teaching. I qualified as a teacher in 1998 and worked as a reading specialist teaching for half my teaching career. As the Reading Subject Leader, I revolutionised how reading was taught at my school. Working closely with my fantastic colleagues as part of the school leadership team, we achieved a 22% increase in our reading SATs results over two years.

During this time, I also undertook consultancy work for the Open University Reading for Pleasure Initiative. I led monthly training sessions for teachers across Northamptonshire and mentored other teachers to lead sessions in other parts of the country. I delivered workshops at their National Conference and undertook training for clusters of schools.

My love of reading and commitment to children accessing and enjoying books and written material led me to want to learn more about teaching and diagnosing dyslexia. I returned to university and completed a two-year qualification to obtain AMBDA and APC. These are known as the ‘gold standard’ of dyslexia qualifications and allow me to diagnose SpLD dyslexia.

Do use my contact form to get in touch, and we can arrange a mutually convenient time to have a chat about whether your child would benefit from a dyslexia assessment. I can talk you through the assessment process and answer any questions you may have.

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Psychology, PGCE, PGDip Language, Literacies and Dyslexia (AMBDA enhanced), Assessment Practising Certificate (APC 1223/189).
